Manage User-Defined Meta Data

Azure Data Expert provides the ability to manage user-defined meta data for storage containers and data blobs. In order to manage user-define meta data for a storage container or data blob, select the required item in the Azure DEX navigator, press the right mouse button, select the 'Properties' menu item and then select the 'Meta Data' tab. In addition, the user is provided with the ability to manage user-defined meta data on the disk space analysis, file classification, file search and duplicate files search results dialogs.

The 'Meta Data' tab allows one to add user-defined meta data fields, set meta data fields value and delete meta data fields. In order to add a new meta data field, press the 'Add' button located on the 'Meta Data' tab, specify a meta data field name, a meta data field value and press the 'Ok' button.

In order to change an existing meta data field, select the required item in the meta data field list, press the right mouse button and select the 'Edit Meta Data' menu item. On the 'Edit Meta Data' dialog, enter a new meta data value and press the 'Ok' button. In order to delete a meta data field, select the required meta data field and press the 'Delete' button. Another option is to delete all meta data fields by selecting the 'Delete All Meta Data' menu item over the meta data field list.

Manage Meta Data Using Azure Data Expert Command Line Utility

In addition to the ability to manage meta data fields using the Azure Data Expert GUI application, the user is provided with a command line utility allowing one to add, set and delete meta data fields for storage containers and data blobs.

azuredex -meta_data -account <Account> -container <Container> [ -blob <Blob> ]

This command shows user-defined meta data fields for the specified storage container or data blob.

azuredex -set_meta_data -account <Account Name> -container <Container Name>
[ -blob <Blob Name> ] -name <Meta Data Name> -value <Meta Data Value>

This command sets the specified meta data for a storage container or data blob.

azuredex -delete_meta_data -account <Account> -container <Container Name>
[ -blob <Blob Name> ] -name <Meta Data Name>

This command deletes the specified meta data field from a storage container or data blob.

azuredex -delete_all_meta_data -account <Account> -container <Container Name>
[ -blob <Blob Name> ] -name <Meta Data Name>

This command deletes all meta data from a storage container or data blob.
